Ok well.. I've had this problem for months. Every time I open up an internet window, this program selection thing opens. However, that isn't a problem. The problem is that I can't open runescape now. I recently updated to Norton 360 but I've checked the firewall settings and everything and it says that runescape and java are enabled.. Someone help and talk in english please.. i'm a noob when it comes to computers.

That's...weird...I'll ask some people and have a look around to see if there's a common cause of that open with problem.

On a side note,

I've recently updated to Norton 360

I can say with confidence that Nortons is amongst the worst commercial security software I've ever dealt with. (I'm also iffy about Trend Micro and McAfee)

Their last good release was in 2003. Every major release since then has had a major flaw that made their credibility, in my eyes, sink. I could go rattling them off, but that's fairly counter-productive. One thing I'll mention is though, until it became seriously outdated and started becoming incompatible, I had 2003 on my computers. (To give you a time span until ~2007/8 I think)

Where's all this leading? Nortons is (or at least, was when I was bothered to even look at it) notorious for being incompatible with some software, and causing shutouts to these programs, even days or months after initial installation.

Another problem I've seen is Nortons (and McAfee >=( ) not actually finding malware, until after another anti-malware program has.

To be honest, however, I've had little experience with current Nortons software. Is Norton 360 any good? I personally doubt it, and with every release in the last decade after 2003 having a glaring flaw, I'm not going to put it on my, or anyone else's systems to find out.

Tl;dr

I'll look into it, but if experience tells me anything, Nortons is a piece of shit.

I've had a run in with McAfee in the past and it is indeed horrible. Windows Defender and Malwarebytes (free version even) are much better than it.

Nice snow leopard wallpaper. You should get a Mac, would solve all problems.

Things to try: (Google anything you don't know)

Don't use internet explorer, it's a piece of shit. Get firefox or chrome.
Use the RuneScape client.
Make sure you have the latest java.
Disable windows defender, if using it. It's shit.
Disable all antivirus programs and firewalls and see if it works. (Don't leave them off though)
Run a scan with Malwarebytes Antimalware.
Get AVG free.
Check your router isn't blocking it.
Start in safe mode and try using the client.
Do a system recovery to a date when it was working.
Reinstall Windows.

System Restore on Windows fucks up more than it fixes, more often than not.

ok thanks guys, i'll sit down with my dad and show him what you guys suggested after I finish exams tomorrow. Hopefully i'll just get a new laptop.

And yeah, in regards to Norton 360, from what reviews i've read and from my short time with it, i've found it to be pretty handy.

Have you tried the RS Client?

If so, I would change browser to see if that helps >_>
